We are in the process of creating a pet program for our hospital and I would not have thought about the staff offering the pet treats, especially with the handler telling them no.  My understanding is that the pets are not to accept treats but the staff should not tempt the pet either.  I am sorry that I do not have a policy to offer to you to help with your situation but I am glad that you brought this barrier up as I will make sure this piece is included in my policy.

Hello all! Do any of you have rules or guidelines in your pet therapy policies regarding staff interactions with the pets? We have been having some staff members give pets treats to the objection of their handler and my supervisor would like to know if there are any other organizations that have policies that outline staff expected behavior in regards to our pets.

    Thank you!
