Jill, we  have a very strong and healthy Auxiliary at Caldwell UNC Health Care.   One of my major roles is to facilitate the work of the CMH Auxiliary, which is a separate 501(c)(3) organization. The financial accounts are completely separate from those of the hospital.  Departments present funding requests to the Auxiliary Board on a monthly basis and the Board approves or denies.   Our hospital is very appreciative of the strong commitment and dedication rendered by our volunteers.  We award scholarships as well as fund special requests to help further enhance the hospital programs and services.  Thanks!  Alice

We have a very active Auxiliary.  We are also a 501(c)(3) and our funds are kept separate from the hospital.  Our Finance Committee meets once a year (in March) and decides how these funds will be allocated based on Department requests.  At our annual luncheon in April, the Auxiliary presents a check to the CEO of the hospital to cover the purchase of all the items we've approved at our annual Finance meeting.  At that time the Auxiliary also presents checks to the hospital Foundation and the COO for two nursing scholarships.

Jill, we do still have a very strong and healthy Auxiliary at Alamance Regional, although I suspect that is the exception.  Our Auxiliary is a separate 501(c)(3) and their accounts are completely separate from those of the hospital system.  Departments present funding requests to the Auxiliary Board on a monthly basis and the Board approves or denies.  Hope that helps!

How many of you still have an auxiliary in place?  We are currently discussing the option of dissolving the auxiliary and assembling a group of volunteer leaders.  I would like to know if any of you have experience with this.

Also, do your volunteers have input on how the funds they raise are spent in the facility?  Do you have a grant process, or does administration determine which departments receive assistance?
